Karate Safety at Broomhill Sports Club.

Safety of all our students is our primary concern. This ranges from ensuring they are picked up from class to ensuring appropriate safety standards are adhered to in competitions that we enter.

All our coaches are fully disclosed and have had appropriate training for coaching young students as well as their karate qualifications. We do risk assessments and do all that we can to mitigate these risks. This makes our practice of karate very safe. Occasionally a student may get a light knock but no more so than any other contact sports. The great news about this is that a student does not have to participate in the competitive sparring. They can still enter competitions, learn great skills and improve their fitness etc without competitive sparring.

The karate techniques that we practise are dangerous if done in an uncontrolled manner. Thus a necessary ability for all studnets is to behave in a controlled and safe manner when we are practising techniques that could be dangerous. Our instructors are well versed in dealing with excited students and have many strategies for ensuring all students are safe. However if a student persists in acting in an uncontrolled manner then our instructors will have no option but to look at exclusion.

If you have any concerns at all then please speak to one of the coaches or call the head coach, Peter Galbraith on 0774 778 6785.
